Malayalee Engineers Association in North America (MEANA) is a non-profit, non-political organization. Our primary objective is to provide an off-line and on-line meeting place for "Malayali Engineers" in the USA. We hope that MEANA can help us grow into a network of engineers with diverse engineering backgrounds.
Click here for the wikipedia entry on MEANA ---------------------------------------------------------------------  MEANA Banquet 2012Malayalee Engineers Association of North America (MEANA) celebrated its 20 year anniversary at the Annual Banquet on Saturday January 19th at India House Banquets in Schaumburg, ILThe event was marked by distinguished guest, out-standing speakers, lively entertainment and mouth watering food. The Chief Guest Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dean of Booth Business School at University of Chicago was accompanied by the Keynote speaker Dr. Ann Kalayil, who heads the General Services Administration (GSA) regional operations that as its major role controls the majority of the purchases for the US government, inaugurated the event with the MEANA executive team. MEANA honors an outstanding engineer of Kerala origin as the Engineer of the Year (EOY) and this year Dr. Thomas Zacharia, the Deputy Director of Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee was honored with the EOY award. Board member, Mr. PS Nair, presented the award of the EOY. Dr. Thomas Zacharia. Dr. Zacharia was out of the country and was not present at the banquet but sent an acceptance speech video that was played for the audience. Vote of thanks, Mr. James Manimala, Vice President thanked all those who worked behind the scene, especially the Executives and the board members. The past president Mr. Sabu Thomas who headed the selection committee presented the new office bearers and board members of MEANA for the year 2013. The program continued with games and activites before dinner followed by entertainment programs by the kids and family of MEANA members. The event was an informal gathering of those that were available to join the MEANA President for an evening after work for a cold drink and to relax. ----------------------------------------------------------------------  MEANA Annual Banquet - November 2011The MEANA annual banquet held on Saturday November 12, 2011 at the Sheraton O'Hare in Rosemont, IL was a memorable event indeed. The banquet was filled to capacity with current and new members from the chicagoland area and neighboring states. The event included a social hour with the Engineer of the Year (EOY), Dr. Jaishankar Menon and ample time for all to meet and socialize with each other.The official start of the banquet began with the Master of ceremonies, Mr. Shaji Edat, MEANA Public Relations Officer who invited to the stage the Executive team as well as the EOY. The event was kicked off with a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem for both the US and India leading into the lamp lighting ceremony. A welcome speech was given by Mr. Narayanan Nair, MEANA Secretary, and the presidential address provided by Mr. Steby Thomas, MEANA President. Mr. Dominic Dominic introduced the 2011 Engineer of the Year, Dr. Jaishankar Menon, and for his outstanding achievements and accomplishments an honarary plaque was presented to the Dr. Menon. After accepting the award, Dr. Menon provided an eloquent speech hitting on three key points. 1. Mentors - everyone should always have them even if you are a CEO at a company 2. Challenge the status quo - Question everything even things that have always been done the same way by asking why 3. Continuous learning across other disciplines - we must always keep learning and obtain more information to feed our knowledge The technical seminar presented by Mr. P.S. Nair was a light hearted look at the indian economy and the housewife of India. Finally the meeting concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. James Manimala, MEANA Vice-President. After dinner the entertainment for the evening included melodies from MEANAs very own Yesudas-Chithra-MG Sreekumar along with dances by individuals and groups of the members children with a magic show that thrilled young and old. The night wrapped up with a friendly game of Bingo where the winners received as prizes, MEANA logo shirts and a cash prize.
